Every Fall we set a day aside to make homemade applesauce. It is a family affair! We begin first by going to a local farm and either picking our own apples or purchasing pre-picked ones. We also have two apple trees in our yard and depending on our harvest, we will often use a combination of our own apples and apples from the local farm.We wash the apples and then peel them.
After we peel the apples, we put them in a blender with a cup of apple cider and blend it all together. Sometimes we might add a dash of cinnamon to change it up. That is it – SIMPLE! No boiling, no losing precious nutrients; just healthy, delicious homemade applesauce!
We put the applesauce in freezer jars to enjoy at a later date or to give as gifts.
If you are making the applesauce with young children, here are a few fun and educational books to read on the topic.
Happy Applesauce making!
